I encourage you to scribble down a list of things you are good at.
I promise you’ll think of things — you might be pleasantly surprised and entertained. And you just might be able to start challenging your daily criticisms with a few compliments… wouldn’t that be nice?
Which list is easier to write? Your strengths or your weaknesses?
Let’s be honest, I made them both at the same time. (Or did I?)
Some things I’m good at are things I’m highly skilled at that I also deem as a waste of my time or a negative behaviour. But that doesn’t diminish my skill in the area.
If you are comfortable, share your list with us below or by a video introducing yourself and telling us what you may have discovered for yourself. You may, once you start, recognise that you are good at many things.
- Think about what skills have helped you thrive in your education, work and volunteer experiences.
- Consider which activities or skills make you feel empowered.
- What comes to you naturally?
- Take note of your favourite hobbies and how you spend your free time.
- What were you good at as a child?
- Ask other people what they think you are good at!
“When we build on our strengths and daily successes — instead of focusing on failures — we simply learn more.”
